In late August, Arawak Walton made a significant leadership change, appointing Ulfat Hussain as its new Chief Executive Officer. Known as the North West’s largest BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) housing association, Arawak Walton has a well-established reputation for supporting BME communities across Greater Manchester.
When asked about his decision to take on the role, Ulfat expressed his enthusiasm, noting, "Arawak has deep-rooted connections with BME communities throughout Greater Manchester and a solid track record of providing housing for them. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to continue building on that legacy."
Ulfat brings a wealth of experience to Arawak Walton. Prior to this role, he served as Deputy Chief Executive at Manningham Housing Association in Bradford for over a decade, where he played a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and implementing resident-centred initiatives. His background has equipped him with a strong understanding of community needs and the skills necessary to lead a housing association committed to inclusivity and support.
In his new position, Ulfat has prioritised strengthening Arawak’s community ties and empowering his team to address the unique housing needs of Greater Manchester’s diverse communities. He faces an increasingly complex housing landscape, marked by rising economic pressures, evolving regulations, and a growing housing crisis. Despite these challenges, Ulfat is determined to uphold Arawak’s social mission while maintaining financial stability. His focus is on delivering quality service, ensuring resilience, and providing continual support to residents.
Reflecting on the journey ahead, Ulfat highlighted both the obstacles and the potential for positive change. "Rising costs, the demand for affordable homes, and inequality present both challenges and opportunities," he remarked. "By working closely with residents, we can provide tailored support, co-create solutions, and remain flexible, empowering our communities to lead better lives."
As Ulfat settles into his role as Chief Executive, Arawak is set for continued growth and impact under his guidance. His leadership brings fresh insight and a renewed vision of inclusivity and social responsibility, setting Arawak Walton on a path toward a more equitable housing landscape.
