News: Harvest transfers homes to BME housing association

Manchester & District Housing Association (M&D), a member of Harvest Housing Group, has announced the recent successful transfer of 22 of their homes based in Ardwick to local housing association, Arawak Walton.

The homes, built specifically for the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) community, have been transferred between the housing associations via Manchester City Council’s stock rationalisation project, and will bring improvements to neighbourhood services for residents.

Arawak Walton specialises in meeting the complex needs of Black and Minority Ethnic communities and centres on the multi-cultural communities of Manchester and Trafford.

Previously managed from M&D’s regional office in Stockport, the homes will now be managed from Arawak Walton’s offices in Ardwick, less than a mile from where they are situated.  Residents will therefore benefit from a high quality responsive service, regular visits from a local housing officer and services more fitting to their needs.

Commenting on the transfer, Ian Perry, Chief Executive of Harvest Housing Group said: “In order to sustain good quality services to customers and fully engage in the neighbourhood agenda we felt it was vital to work in partnership with Arawak Walton for the transfer of these homes.  This will lead to an enhancement of service provision for local people, create greater resident empowerment and community engagement and will also deliver cost efficiency.”

Cym D’souza, Chief Executive of Arawak Walton commented: “Our culture is one of flexibility and willingness to embrace new initiatives including stock transfers.  Residents will benefit from our expertise in delivering comprehensive neighbourhood services to the BME community.”

The transfer, which has been approved by the Tenant Services Authority (TSA), the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Manchester City Council, follows comprehensive consultation with residents and was completed in December 2010.
